Probably done using real Infrared Filters e.g Hoya R72 & RM90, Cokin 89B , Tiffen 87 (which really dont cost that much, but you still have to buy them) Heres how to take similar photographs and not have to buy anything!
IR Photography has a way of making the mundane seem surreal. But it often takes equipment you just haven't got, cant get or dont have acess to. Now heres a way to make your own makeshift IR Filter! Yes you can make it with stuff you can find right in your own home. Heres how:
1.)
First test your camera for IR capability. Why? because most cameras have an infrared blocking filter over the sensor. For most film cameras its ok, but for DSLR's only some models dont have this and are capable of taking IR photos. To test you camera, youll need a regular remote control and your camera.
Point the remote at the lens and press any button on the remote.
Then take a shot or look at the display(not the viewfinder)
And if you can see the infrared light in the image then you're all set.
2.)
Next rummage through you stash of old photos and negatives for some of the black part of the processed film. This is usually the end part or the unexposed part of the film.

cut two out to the size you need to cover your camera lens.
Youll need to put two together to get the right effect. This will only be good for smaller cameras and lenses unless you have some "big-ass" negatives lying around, then good for you. You may decide to make a makeshift mount for it with some black card so you can easily attach it to your camera, or you can just hold it over you lens like i do.
3.)
Now you're ready to shoot.

Depending on your white balance setting you may get any of these three effects.
You could experiment with different settings of white balance to get the right effect. Then a bit of Photoshopping realy helps (Try doing, auto levels, auto color balance and auto contrast) then adjust it from there.
4.)
And finally when you're done tweaking the settings, you'll probably end up with something like this (hopefully better!)

This was taken on the street where i live, using my camera phone.

so was this, with a diffeent WB setting

and this is how it looks without the makeshift IR Filter.
Well thats that, If you do try it, let me know how it went or better yet show me what you got. I'm about to go out as well to try some other experiments out! Hope you liked this post, Happy IR Shooting!
heres another tutorial from a fellow deviant on how to "make infrared photos without having to use filters at all (makeshift or otherwise) to go there click here

But play around with your channel mixers.
check out [link] and look for an image of a river, with blue leaves instead of green. PhotoShop is a great program.
